Portuguese for Foreigners

Portuguese for Foreigners classes are taught throughout the semester and were organized according to the EUFICCS’ (European Use of Full-Immersion, Culture, Content, Service approach for Language Learning) methodology.

It was named after the project funded by the European Commission, Education and Culture DG, under the Lifelong Learning Programme – Key Activity 2 (Languages), in which University Fernando Pessoa participated with 3 partners (Associazione Culturale Ulisse and Siena Italian Studies, from Italy, and Centro de Lenguas y Educación Cultural, from Spain).

Therefore, classes are divided into 3 components:

  1. Portuguese language (3 ECTS): teaching of the Portuguese language and grammar;
  2. Contents (2 ECTS): reading and discussion of different texts to develop the capacity to reflect on the contents taught, as well as to notice characteristics of the society students are living in;
  3. Reflective Writing (1 ECTS): developing an innovative reflective intercultural competence, facilitating a full involvement in the Portuguese society.

All international students can attend this course weather they add it to the learning agreement or not.
