Applications that do not follow these steps sequentially and completely will not be accepted:

After going through the selection procedures at the home university, the person responsible for Student Mobility must inform the International Relations Office at UFP of the data of the selected students:
- student’s name
- study area/ course
- period of studies (1st/2nd semester or annual)
- cycle of studies/ level
- student’s email
IMPORTANT: Applications of students not mentioned in that nomination will not be accepted!
Applications are carried out through our application page for exchange students and with a photo following our instructions. Read the procedures carefully before you register and create an account for your application.
The following documents must be attached to the Application Form:
- 1 color photograph (official passport type of photo, 3×4 cm, with bright background in jpg format – any other pictures won’t be accepted;
- Official Transcript of Records issued by your home University in English language signed and stamped;
- Learning Agreement (for Erasmus+ students | for Exchange students) – watch the video!;
- Copy of the European Health Insurance Card or International Health Insurance Contract (the preferred partner of the International Relations Office is );
- Certificate/Language Proficiency Form of English or Portuguese B1 issued by the home university.
IMPORTANT:
- Without this photo we cannot register you as a student at UFP. This means no student number, no access password, no student card and no course registration.
- Without an official Transcript of Records in English, we cannot approve your selection of courses to perform at UFP.
Discuss with your Departmental Coordinator the courses that you have to perform at UFP. Most courses are available in Portuguese and some in English language. You can check the list of available courses in English at our webpages: 1st Cycle (undergraduate) and 2nd Cycle (postgraduate).
If you have any doubts concerning a specific course, please contact the Departmental Coordinator responsible for that scientific area at UFP (check our section “Who to contact and why”).
IMPORTANT:
- The sooner you send us a study proposal, the sooner we will be able to validate it or make the necessary remarks.
- All study proposals must be filled in an official learning agreement form.
- Normally, exchange students may apply to take courses at level 1 (1st Cycle).
- You can only apply to 2nd Cycle courses if you have already completed the equivalent to 180 ECTS/six academic semesters.
- All course choices are subject to timetabling and the previous study which applicants have undertaken. Advice will be offered by the relevant Departmental Coordinator where appropriate.
- Logically, students can only choose courses which are available in the semester they are attending at UFP: Winter semester goes from September to February, and Spring semester goes from February to July. You can check these restrictions at our webpage http://ects.ufp.pt.
- Learning Agreements which are not signed and stamped by the coordinators from the home university and by the student will not be accepted.
- All information required in the Learning Agreement is mandatory. This includes the name and Erasmus code of your home university (when applicable) as well as the study area. Course codes, when available, will allow us to register you for the exact course you need.
5 – Sending the application
The complete application with all necessary documents must be sent before the established deadline by email to gri@fundacaofernandopessoa.pt
IMPORTANT:
- Applications sent after the deadline may fail to be accepted.
- Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
- Deadlines for sending the application:
- 20th June, for Autumn semester or full academic year
- 18th November, for Spring semester
6 – Acceptance
Students will be informed of the application’s result only after we receive the documents as explained above.
We will email the students’ acceptance:
- by the end of July, for those students coming for the 1st semester or full academic year, and
- by the end of December, for those students coming for the 2nd semester.
IMPORTANT:
- All communications between UFP and the selected students will be made through the email given in the Application Form!
- Students who don’t check their email regularly will be responsible for any failure in following our instructions.
- Students who require a visa to study in Portugal are responsible for making all the necessary arrangements at the Portuguese consulate in their country of residence before coming to Portugal.
- Students who don’t have a passport of an EU Member State must submit, upon acceptance of the application, a valid visa for the period of study to be carried out in Portugal.
- Students who need an acceptance letter for a visa will only receive it after sending the complete application form with all required documents.
- The students are required to present the visa at the International Relations Office upon their arrival.
- Students with student visa issued for less than 6 months need to register their arrival with the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) within the first 3 days after arriving.
IMPORTANT:
- The student visa must be obtained before leaving the country of origin;
- The formalities for obtaining the visa are the sole responsibility of each student;
- Students who, after arriving at UFP, don’t have a valid student visa will be prevented from registering and their condition will be reported to the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA).
